Aromatherapy for Trauma and Addiction

With Cathy Skipper and Florian Birkmayer, MD

January 31-Febuary 1, 2019

Trauma and addiction seem ubiquitous in the world right now and have touched each of us, directly or indirectly. Both trauma and addiction confront us with forces that seem more powerful that we are and can leave us feeling helpless and overwhelmed. In this class, we will explore how to use aromas, in the form of essential oils, to unlock our own hidden powers to transform trauma and addiction into opportunities for personal growth and evolution. Aromas directly touch the areas of the brain and body that are disregulated by trauma and addiction. Trauma and addiction make us feel cut off—from friends and family, from ourselves and from our Soul and Nature. Aromatic molecules are the “molecules of connectedness” and help us heal that sense of separation and isolation.

This two day workshop will provide a framework for using the power of scent for healing trauma and addiction. There will be many hands-on exercises to deepen our intuitive relationship with these powerful plant allies.

This class is for aromatherapists, addiction counsellors, herbalists, body-workers, other healers and anyone who is committed to helping heal trauma and addictions.

What you will learn:

  • How to work with essential oils as living, wise partners rather than tools.
  • How to work on ourselves to better help others—being a Wounded Healer.
  • How to turn the Shadow, the power behind addiction, into an ally.
  • The alchemical stages of healing addiction and the oils for each stage.
  • How to work with trauma—personal, family and historical—using oils.
  • The importance of feeling the whole and transforming our core wounds.
  • How to use aromas to awaken to our personal myth.

Cathy Skipperand Florian Birkmayer, MD combine decades of experience teaching and healing. They have pioneered the synthesis of Jungian depth psychology and aromatherapy, with an emphasis on the alchemical process of turning life’s challenges into opportunities for personal growth. It’s more than a class, it’s an experience. I went in expecting to take notes on a process, instead I became the process. The two days felt like a real journey inward from which I gained actually experiential knowledge, insight that is now part of my being.” — Ash

The Alchemy of Menopause – using aroma to transform the challenges of Menopause into opportunity for growth!

For many women, menopause is something to be dreaded. It is seen as a problem to be cured, rather than what it really is. In truth, menopause is the powerful transition to becoming a wise elder. To make the most of this journey of birthing ourselves into our true, powerful authentic selves and midwifing others, women need information, insights and tools, which this workshop offers. More than anything right now, our global and local communities need wise, mature women leaders and healers. With the right tools, a woman can transform her experiences into wisdom, instead of mourning what she is leaving behind. If a woman is able to live the journey to menopause as a passage to her true maturity, she can embrace the wise woman she is becoming.

Aroma and the Alchemy of Menopause workshop will give women the tools to turn inwards and transform the way they view this phase of life. Using Jungian concepts and aromatics, this workshop leads women through the alchemical stages of menopause. Through creative exercises, it helps women see their needs and experiences during peri-menopause in a new light that makes this an empowering and transforming journey.

So, if you or your clients are feeling;

  • That menopause could actually be a powerful chance to transform and heal.
  • That a wise elder is asking to be born from your experiences of being a woman in this world.
  • That menopause is an important time to birth yourself
  • That menopause should be positive and empowering
  • That your Animus(inner masculine) is asking for connection
  • That you would like to learn how to use essential oils to accompany you through this transition.

This class is for you!

Menopause is an initiation. Now is the time to take back and redefine this momentous passage in our lives!

Cathy Skipper trained in France as a herbalist and aromatherapist and is now living in Taos, New Mexico. Her journey in plant medicine lead her to working with plants intuitively and helping others to reconnect with nature. Using the alchemical journey towards individuation and aromatics, she guides healers and therapists in ways to heal their own wounds and find their personal myth in order to help others. She believes for men and women to embrace the divine feminine within, women need to lead the way. She is devoted to transforming the way women experience menopause, using intuitive plant communication, art and inner journey work, she leads them through their own authentic inner journeys towards true empowerment in order for them to become the wise women elders we so badly need.

Cathy is the author of two books, Aromatic Medicine and The Alchemy of Menopause

She teaches “Intuitive Plant communication”, “hydrosol distilling” and “Alchemy, aromatherapy, the wounded healer and medicine of the soul” as online classes through ‘The School of Aromatic Studies’
